Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ComPearApple is developed by Matthew Harris, an independent developer based in Bradford, England, UK. You can contact us at hello@compearapple.com.

2. What data we collect

When you create an account we collect:

• Your email address
• Your chosen username

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and display name from that provider in order to create your account. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

When you use the app we store:

• The lists you create and items you rate
• Comparisons you create with other users
• Comments you post on comparisons

We do not collect your real name, location, phone number, or payment information.

3. How we use your data

Your data is used to provide the app's features — building lists, comparing with friends, and showing your ratings. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

We may use anonymised, aggregated data (such as which categories are most popular) to understand how the app is used and improve it. This data cannot be used to identify you individually.

We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports that help us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports may include device model, OS version, and the state of the app at the time of the crash. No personally identifiable information is intentionally included. Firebase is operated by Google and subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party APIs to display content. These services have their own privacy policies:

• The Movie Database (TMDB) — movies and TV shows
• BoardGameGeek (BGG) — board games
• IGDB — video games
• AniList — anime

Book, music, podcast, and baby name data is hosted in our own database and is not fetched from third-party APIs.

5. Data storage

Your account data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted on AWS infrastructure in the EU region. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

6. Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data (available in Settings → Delete Account)
• Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted immediately.

8. Children

ComPearApple is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
